Join us for our Museum People Call as, we will delve into the crucial role of advocacy for museums, focusing on both state representation and local engagement. Advocacy is not just about securing funding or support; it's about telling your museum's story and showcasing its impact. We will lead in with some updates on federal museum priorities, before delving into advocacy strategies for museums of all sizes.
Dave Oberg from Elmhurst History Museum will discuss strategies for effectively advocating for your museum at the state level, emphasizing the importance of building relationships with legislators and policymakers. This includes highlighting your museum's economic, educational, and cultural contributions to the state. We will also share details about this year’s state legislative priorities, and our upcoming Illinois Museum Advocacy Day on May 14.
Alison Costanzo from the Lombard Historical Society will discuss advocacy on a smaller scale and will explore ways to engage with city or village trustees to garner support and raise awareness about your museum's value to the community. This can include inviting trustees to museum events, providing them with updates on your museum's activities, and demonstrating how your museum serves as a vital community resource.
By the end of this presentation, attendees will have a better understanding of the power of advocacy in advancing their museum's mission and the tools to effectively engage with both state representatives and local officials.
