  • 30 May 2025
  • 2:00 PM - 3:00 PM

Join us for Deconstructing Origin Stories: Part 2 when we feature film producer Susan Kelsey, who will discuss her recent documentary works on Billy Caldwell. Caldwell was the son of a Mohawk woman and British Army Captain and a primary negotiator for the sale of land in northwest Illinois, resulting in the removal of all Native American tribes in Illinois. A portion of the film Uncovering History: The Role of Billy Caldwell in Potawatomi Treaty-Making will be screened during this program. Susan is a researcher, writer, and film director and producer, and is on the board at the Gichigamiin Indigenous Nations Museum in Evanston.

WHEN: Friday, May 30 from 2 - 3 P.M.

WHERE: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/83238192250

Deconstructing Origin Stories is a series that explores how we share our community’s foundings. The series is intended to broaden the telling of history in the time of American settlement in northern Illinois to delve deeper into multiple perspectives. It will continue through 2025 and engage museum professionals in a process to revisit how we have long shared our founding stories. The first part featured historian Dr. Ann Durkin Keating, helping us to understand the complexity of relationships and land in Illinois from the time of the French and Indian War to the 1840s.

Note: This event is for IAM and KDRMA members.
