Museums on Call invites museum professionals to explore how cultural institutions can meaningfully support patients, families, and care teams across the healthcare continuum. Recently endorsed by both the Association of Midwest Museums (AMM) and the Mid-Atlantic Association of Museums (MAAM), this Illinois Association of Museums initiative demonstrates how museums can extend their missions beyond their walls—bringing connection, curiosity, and comfort to people wherever they are in their health journey.
This call will highlight real-world examples from museums that have partnered with healthcare organizations to deliver object-based engagement, facilitated conversations, sensory-friendly activities, and pop-up experiences. Participants will learn how museums have adapted existing programs, developed new content, and collaborated with clinical partners to meet the needs of diverse audiences in moments of vulnerability, transition, and healing.
What members will gain:
-Insight into successful museum–healthcare collaborations -Practical examples of adaptable programming for clinical environments -Strategies for initiating partnerships with hospitals, hospice providers, and community health organizations -Inspiration for expanding community access through mission-aligned outreach
